Maliba Lodge, Lesotho, Southern Africa.

"Traveling the world and seeing people in all sorts of circumstances makes me appreciate my freedom, my opportunities, and my home more and more. I don’t think people can truly appreciate what they have until they travel somewhere and are faced with abject poverty, or to a place where people don’t have the same freedoms we are blessed with back home. That is where I consider myself lucky, and I don’t think I would have ever come to that realization without traveling far and wide. I couldn’t have done all the amazing travels and seen all the incredible things without my generous husband Randall. Thank you my love."

Our trip has almost come to an end. My husband and I made several good trips around Lesotho including to the eastern border of Lesotho and South Africa. One of the places I love to revisit for fun and good food is called “Living Life Station Café” It is located in the town of Ladybrand, Free State, a province of South Africa. Oh my god, what a clever café! Their decoration is very chic, cute and quaint. I assure you this place serves the best breakfast in town and has a very warm welcoming staff - so what else could you ask for.

According to my ending of the previous blog, I mentioned about Maliba lodge, the most luxurious lodge in the northern part of Lesotho. We made our last weekend getaway trip up there. First I thought that they might not allow us to spend a weekend up there due to the accommodation occupancy, the weather forecast – freeze warning, but man we made it. It was phenomenal and a perfect way to wrap up the southern Africa trip at the Maliba lodge.

This tranquil high-end remote lodge is set in the mountainous Tsehlanyane National Park. They have six upscale stone and thatch-roof chalet offering en suite bathrooms, patios and sitting areas, fireplaces in both the main-lobby and the room itself, heated floor, etc. We stayed in chalet no.6 and wow it is the BEST of all the lodges. We got an amazing view from our balcony and literally from our bed. Not to mention that our chalet was isolated from the other five lodges, which I like, but this was the first time I was able to see a gazillion stars and the MILKY WAY!!!. As I grew up in Bangkok metropolis for 28 years and relocated to America almost 6 years ago, I never saw a sky at night quite like this before. I was in awe and speechless at that deep silent night.

All in all Maliba Lodge is a well-worth trip to visit as a couple or as a family. And I learned that many people from Johannesburg, South Africa love to make a trip here for a road trip / vacation.

At the end of the next 2 weeks I will be home with all the good memories I made in Southern Africa, the Mountain Kingdom Lesotho, my new Masotho good-hearted friend Mo, and all the friendly crew at the Mpilo Hotel.

Until next time! South Africa we will come back definitely.

Ps. Take a peek on my next journey … Iceland :)
