Lake Como (Lago Di Como)

Lake Como is situated in the heart of the Italian Alps foothills, about 50 km north of Milan and borders in the west with Switzerland. This is another of our weekend getaway spots while we live in Milan. We took a one hour train ride from Central station to Varenna-Esino Perledo. Voila! there we were in one of the beautiful quaint village towns, Varenna.

Lake Como has 5 villages on the lake ; Como, Lecco, Bellagio, Varenna, Managgio. In my opinion, the most picturesque of the towns is Varenna, it's quaint, peaceful and somehow has a more authentic air than the other towns. It has many great restaurants and cafes with a view. We stayed at a nice cozy hotel located in the heart of the plaza and got a room with a lake view. It was pleasant to watch people on the plaza in the morning - an Italian man with a glass of white wine in the morning, a family that delivered the milk and cheese from house to house. It's like a movie but real.

We took a short ferry ride to another well known dreamy place, Bellagio.

Bellagio, a pearl of the lake. This town is full of cobbled streets, lined with small shops. It's very tranquil and a joy to walk around. Bellagio is set in an ideal position where two legs of Lake Como come together and that has panoramic lake views. There are no words to describe how beautiful.

You can buy a day trip ferry ticket to enjoy the scenic views of the villages on the lake or hop on-off at each or any of the villages.

It was the perfect romantic get-a-way. I love Italy.
