We are always happy when we go to Sedona (I must say this is my 4th time visiting Sedona and I never get tired of it). The gorgeous red rock mountains and the ambiance just make us feel good. We started this trip with a night in Sedona and had an outstanding dinner and drinks at a famous romantic luxury resort. The next day, we headed out North to Page, Arizona, for sightseeing and hiking at Horseshoe Bend and a "must-see" place in the USA, Antelope Canyon.
Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon located on Navajo land just outside Page, Arizona. The only way you can get in is to make a reservation with a Navajo organization tour guide. We made reservations a week in advance and checked in with them 20 minutes before the tour started. From there we took a passenger tour truck to the Upper Antelope Canyon. It was a bumpy ride on the dunes as we made our way up a large dry river bed. Once I walked into the slot canyon, I was stunned by Mother Nature's beauty. It was breathtaking. Our tour guide, a Navajo named Henry did a fantastic job telling us what to expect, how the slot canyons form, the dangers, and the highlights. He even set our cameras for us for the best settings for the sometimes difficult shots. Seriously, the Antelope Canyon is truly a unique and magnificent sight that I am not sure where else in the world I could see anything like this. Words cannot describe how beautiful is.
The slot canyon was formed by eons of wind and water and varies in width from two feet wide to the largest passing of about five feet and the height of the sandstone walls going straight up is about 70 to 100 feet, creating a bit of a claustrophobic sense but no one seemed to care because the shapes and curves and colors were so stunning and unique. The trip walking through the 400-meter-long winding slot canyon takes about an hour and a half but everyone wished we could spend the entire day inside. It is like no other experience.
In my blog, I'm attempting to show the diversity of environments in Arizona. People tend to think Arizona is just desert land. They forget about the mountains, the forest, beautiful canyon lands like the one I'm showing here, and the four separate seasons that we get which makes Arizona so special.
